So many of us spent so much of 2020 desperately wishing that the 1st of January 2021 would hurry up and be with us.
We were hit – and hit hard – but somehow we held onto the hope that 2021 would be better.
Now, here we are … already one month of 2021 gone and we’re experiencing more of the same. Face masks, lockdowns, restricted movement and restraint on life in general.
We’re living in fear, and the threats are coming at us from every direction. If the virus doesn’t get us then it’s the multitude of things that are being thrown at us from the conspiracy theorists that will end our way of life.
What 2020 taught me is that the simplest pathway forwards is the easiest pathway to walk.
But how do you do that?
There’s nothing simple about life right now … and for most of us, even the thought of making changes just piles on the overwhelm. But that’s because we’ve been taught to react that way.
I’ve had my life completely collapse out from under me. I’ve had to completely start again and rebuild every inch and corner of who I am.
What I know from this is that you find the simplest pathway forwards by disrupting the auto-pilot way of living and by consciously connecting to what is right for you.
Learn to rely on yourself FIRST!
For too long we’ve taken onboard everything everyone else has told us we ‘need to do’, ‘should do’, and ‘have to have’, and we’ve used this as our roadmap for getting ahead.
The truth is, until you start to find your own answers about your life, you’ll never go anywhere.
Relying on others to identify our problems and decide what our solutions are is in fact the number one thing that has created so much chaos in our lives.
How much time have we wasted ticking all the boxes, getting the ‘right’ qualifications, working for the ‘right’ places, having the ‘right’ titles and the list goes on?
Asking yourself questions is the quickest way to move your life in a different direction.
What do you need to know about YOUR life?
Do you want someone else’s take on who you are, what you need and what is right for you? Or, do you want to make those decisions for yourself?
If you truly want to get ahead, you first need to decide where it is you want to go.
The easiest way to do this is to start asking questions that matter, so you can get the answers you need to make the decisions that are right for you.
Start by asking yourself simple questions like these:
What are my energy levels like?
How do I feel when I wake up in the morning?
What are the three things I would love to be doing every day?
How often do I get to do those things now?
How could I easily do these things more regularly?
What is the number one thing that is most important to me?
Do I have that in my life right now?
Never be afraid of your own answers.
Through our social conditioning we’ve been trained that we have to be able to defend every aspect of our lives. We have to fit in and gain approval from everyone around us – it’s the safest way to live our lives.
But living this way is also the main reason that we force ourselves to work for companies that don’t match our values, stay in relationships that aren’t working for us and generally live stressed and unhappy lives.
Your answers are yours – they are a critical part of finding your way forwards.
Allowing yourself to be honest with yourself is the easiest way to create a simple pathway forwards. Answer the questions just for you – you don’t have to show them to anyone else.
If you can’t be honest with yourself, who can you be honest with?
Look at your answers and choose just one step you can take to align your life with the information you’ve gathered.
One step is all it takes to significantly change the direction your life is moving.
